Upon establishment of the Technology Governance Board (Chapter 20) within the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), powers and duties were assigned in order to set priorities for statewide technology investments and initiatives and to assist the department of management and the state’s chief information officers in developing a statewide information technology budget. Among the duties was the development and implementation of recommended standards for information technology. This includes, but is not limited to system design and systems integration and interoperability, which when implemented shall apply to all participating agencies.
DAS works in a collaborative manner with state agencies to develop, implement, and update enterprise-wide IT standards. The guiding principles for standards development are to ensure compatibility and interoperability of state government information technology systems, while at the same time promoting effective technology alignment with enterprise strategies and programs.
"Information technology", for this purpose, means computing and electronic applications used to process and distribute information in digital and other forms and includes information technology devices and information technology services.
