Email Enterprise Vault Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How has ITE implemented the Symantec Enterprise vault system and how are your customers using it?
A1: All DAS employee email functions are fully enabled for Enterprise Vault. In addition, Dept. of Elder Affairs, Department of Management, and portions of our other customers are implemented. All messages older than 6 months or larger than 1 MB are moved to the archive on a nightly basis. All DAS PST files have been migrated to the archive.

Q2: Is ITE going to offer this as a service offering to agencies not receiving e-mail services from ITE?
A2: Technically speaking, it would be possible for this service to be extended to other agencies that are Exchange customers in the centralized Exchange organization. The product currently supports only Exchange messaging systems, and the security model would require an Exchange implementation that is part of the centralized Exchange Organization.

Q3: What is the price for this service?
A3: Customers of ITE’s full-service Exchange offering receive the vaulting service as a part of their service package for no additional fee. The price for vaulting service can be found in the eDAS system for service ID 1001, Enterprise Vault. This pricing model will include the costs of Enterprise Vault support, hardware and storage spaced consumed on the ITE storage area network. Per-seat licensing costs will be agencies’ responsibility. In addition to the vaulting service functions, electronic storage for the archived data is required. If ITE’s data storage facilities are utilized, ITE rates will be applied. If agencies elect to utilize their own storage systems, an ITE fee for storage will not be assessed.

Q4: Can state agencies purchase seat licenses from the DAS master contract for the Symantec Enterprise Vault service? If so, what is the process?
A4: KVS was acquired in November by Veritas. In December, Symantec announced their acquisition of Veritas. At this time purchasing still be made via the Veritas organization. DAS does not maintain an enterprise licensing agreement for the Enterprise Vault. To achieve volume discounts for this product, DAS would need to negotiate a purchase based upon the level of commitment from other agencies.

Q5: What changes can the email user expect?
A5: The Enterprise Vault product was designed to provide a transparent user experience. An Outlook add-in is used to provide the greatest degree of functionality, but formal end-user training has not been necessary for the accounts deployed to date.

Q6: Who establishes the archival and retention rules and policies?
A6: The customer will establish the rules and policies that best meet their needs. ITE will work with the customer to implement the service and determine efficient methods to meet those requirements.
