Interested BlackBerry Customer Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I order new Blackberry Service?
You start by identifying the wireless provider that you wish to use for your wireless service. If you already have wireless phone service, you may wish to use that vendor; however, you should be aware that coverage for Blackberry sometimes differs than coverage for phone service. Be sure to check the vendor’s Blackberry coverage maps carefully. Once you have placed an order for a Blackberry handheld and service, you need to contact DAS-ITE to arrange for a connection to your Exchange mailbox via the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).

  2. Can any agency participate in the service offered by DAS?
Yes, however there may be additional costs and steps involved. If your agency is using a Microsoft Exchange that is part of the Exchange Organization you can be served without additional cost or effort. For agencies using something other than Microsoft Exchange or that are not part of the Enterprise Exchange Organization, you should contact DAS-ITE for details.

  3. My agency uses Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise, or Exchange 5.5 – can I use this service?
Yes, but additional steps and costs will be involved. Please see Question #2 in this FAQ.

  4. How much does this service cost?
The price of the handheld depends upon the wireless carrier that you purchase from and the current promotions available. In addition to the hardware charge, you will need to pay a monthly service fee to the wireless provider and an Outlook Integration fee to DAS. The Outlook Integration Fee recovers the costs associated with the back-end Blackberry Enterprise Server and support.
