|Q1:||How do I setup my new BlackBerry handheld?|
|A1:||Upon receipt of your BlackBerry handheld, please contact the ITE Service Desk at

|Q2:||My BlackBerry handheld has stopped receiving new email messages, what do I do?|
|A2:||Make sure that the radio or antenna on your handheld is turned on. Look for the signal strength indicator or check the icon on the main menu. If your handheld runs low on battery, the antenna turns itself off. Once you have charged the battery, you will need to manually turn on the antenna to begin receiving email.|
|Q3:||Can my BlackBerry handheld be shared with co-workers?|
|A3:||Because of the configuration to access your mailbox, the sharing of an handheld requires a lot of technical effort each time a change takes place. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you not plan to share a handheld with another mailbox.|

|A4:||If you are certain that the unit is experiencing a hardware failure, you will need to contact your wireless service provider for warranty replacement or service. If you are not sure that your problem is a genuine hardware failure, feel free to contact the ITE Service Desk at 515-281-5703.|
|Q5:||Can I access the Internet from my BlackBerry handheld?|
|A5:||Yes, the Internet is available as a feature of the BlackBerry Enterprise
Server and some wireless providers. You should note that not all
websites are accessible with this browser, and performance may
be similar to a dial-up connection.
|Q6:||Is the communication channel secure?|
|A6:||If you connect via a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the communications are all 3DES encrypted. If you use a desktop redirector or the web-client software to bypass the Enterprise Server, your communications are not encrypted and not secure.|
|Q7:||When I delete an item in Outlook it does not immediately get deleted on the handheld. Likewise, when I delete from the handheld the item is not immediately deleted in Outlook. What is going on?|
|A7:||Unlike new mail, deletions are reconciled every 15 to 20 minutes.
If you wait this amount of time, your deletions should take effect
on the opposite system.
|Q8:||I have waited 20 minutes and items deleted in Outlook are still showing up on my handheld. Why are they not deleting?|
|A8:||When the handheld reconciles with your Outlook client (every 15-20 minutes), the handheld looks in your Deleted Items container for messages to remove from the handheld. If you delete an item in Outlook, and then you empty the Deleted Items before the reconciliation, the handheld will not know that an item is to be removed – you will need to delete it from the handheld manually.|
|Q9:||My handheld is “out of sync” a lot of the time. What is going on?|
|A9:||BlackBerry handhelds do not actually synchronize with the mailbox – they reconcile. When a new message arrives, it is immediately sent to then handheld. Every 15-20 minutes, “reconciliation” takes place where the handheld looks at your Outlook Deleted Items container for messages to be removed from the handheld. Because there is not true “sync” this can sometimes lead to inconsistencies between your mailbox and the handheld.|
